Equipment

  • 1 9x13 inch baking pan lined with parchment paper
  • 1 electric mixer
  • 1 heart-shaped cookie cutter

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Chocolate Drizzle

  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate melted

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the melted butter and sugar together until well combined. Add in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, folding gently until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to shape the brownies. If desired, bake first and cut into hearts after cooling.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Do not overbake.
  • Allow brownies to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  • Melt the semisweet chocolate and drizzle over the cooled brownies. Allow the chocolate to set before serving.

Storage

  • Store any leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer freshness, refrigerate for up to a week.
