Equipment

  • 1 9x9-inch baking pan lined with parchment paper
  • 1 saucepan
  • 1 Mixing Bowl large

Ingredients

Brown Butter

  • 1 cup unsalted butter

Brownie Batter

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the butter turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown butter and sugar. Whisk in the eggs and vanilla extract until smooth. Sift in cocoa powder, flour, and salt, and fold gently until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Allow to cool in the pan before slicing.

Serving

  • Cut the cooled brownies into squares and serve them as they are, or with a scoop of your favorite ice cream.

Storage

  • Store the brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. To keep them for longer, refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

Pro Tips: For the best flavor, use high-quality chocolate chips and cocoa powder. Brown the butter until it reaches a deep amber color for the best nutty taste.
Ingredient Substitutions: For a gluten-free version, use a 1:1 gluten-free baking flour. You can also replace the chocolate chips with white chocolate or butterscotch chips for a different flavor.
How to Serve: Pair these brownies with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an extra indulgent treat.
Storage & Freshness: Keep brownies in an airtight container to maintain freshness. If refrigerating, allow them to come to room temperature before serving.
Make-Ahead Tips: These brownies can be made a day in advance and stored in an airtight container. Cut just before serving for the freshest taste.
