Equipment

  • 1 9-inch square baking pan lightly greased
  • 1 blender or food processor
  • 1 Mixing Bowl large

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 can 15 oz black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional Add-ins

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan and set aside.
  • Rinse and drain the black beans thoroughly. Place the beans in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth and creamy.

Mixing the Batter

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the black bean puree, cocoa powder, maple syrup, melted coconut oil, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix well until you achieve a smooth batter.
  • If desired, fold in chocolate chips and chopped nuts into the batter for added texture and flavor.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges start to pull away from the sides of the pan.
  • Insert a toothpick into the center of the brownies. If it comes out mostly clean with a few crumbs, the brownies are done.

Serving

  • Let the brownies cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing. Serve at room temperature or slightly warmed.

Storage

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
