Equipment

  • 1 9-inch round cake pan greased and floured
  • 1 electric mixer
  • 1 Mixing Bowl large

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Ganache Topping

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch round cake pan by greasing and flouring it to prevent sticking.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  • In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix to ensure a tender brownie texture.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Ganache Topping

  • While the brownies are cooling, prepare the ganache. Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Let sit for 1-2 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.
  • Once the brownies are completely cooled, pour the ganache over the top and spread evenly with a spatula. Allow the ganache to set slightly before slicing.
  • Cut the brownies into 8 slices and serve immediately. These brownies are delicious on their own or paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Store any leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months.
