Equipment

  • 1 Baking Sheet lined with parchment paper
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 cookie cutter tree-shaped

Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Icing

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • Food coloring as desired

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a smooth dough forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Use a tree-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies.
  • Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden. Cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.

Serving

  • Prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Divide and add food coloring as desired. Use to decorate the cooled cookies.

Storage

  • Store decorated cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
