Equipment

  • 1 Baking Sheet lined with parchment paper
  • 1 Mixing Bowl large
  • 1 electric mixer
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 cookie cutters

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Chill the dough for at least one hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes and place them onto the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  • Once the cookies are completely cool, decorate them with icing and sprinkles as desired. Serve them on a festive platter or gift them to loved ones.

Storage

  • Store the decorated cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, you can freeze undecorated cookies and decorate them when needed.
