Equipment

  • 1 9x13 inch baking pan greased
  • 1 electric mixer
  • 1 Mixing Bowl large

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Chocolate Frosting

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until combined.
  • In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir continuously to ensure there are no lumps. Once combined, carefully stir in the boiling water until smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  • In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk. Add the vanilla extract and continue to beat until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.
  • Once the cake has cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top using a spatula. Create decorative swirls or patterns as desired.

Serving

  • Cut the cake into slices and serve on a platter. Enjoy it with friends and family!

Storage

  • Cover any leftovers with plastic wrap and store at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
