Equipment

  • 1 9-inch round cake pan greased and floured
  • 1 electric mixer
  • 1 Mixing Bowl large

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Apples

  • 3 cups apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9-inch round cake pan by greasing and flouring it thoroughly.
  • Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning and set aside.

Make the Batter

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cardamom, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Gently fold the sliced apples into the batter, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Serve

  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, slice the cake and serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.

Storage

  • Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
